USING BRICK SEALERS FOR WATERPROOFING PROTECTION

The right brick sealer can even prevent efflorescence. In case your not familiar, efflorescence is the alkaline salts within the brick exfoliating outward normally due to damp or wet conditions and some hydrostatic pressure. This efflorescence is a white milky material that can look like dried up salt or even like bird droppings. Once the efflorescence is formed it can be very difficult to remove and in fact, it may be necessary to use our efflorescence remover before even beginning the brick sealing process. The best way to prevent bricks from efflorescing is to properly seal them before installation or immediately after. For maximum protection, we recommend using our deep penetrating densifying sealers first. Used on brick, our Hurricane vapor emission sealers will fill in the small voids in the brick. Sometimes when this is done, more often on red brick, the white alkaline salts may rise to the surface and then be able to be pressure washed off. We usually recommend waiting a week after the densifiying brick sealers are applied so the sealers have ample time to push out the bad materials.
After the densifying sealers are applied and any contaminants are exfoliated and cleaned off, the brick should then be sealed with our invisible waterproofing Typhoon style sealers. 
Because they are breathable sealers, they will not hurt the brick in any way as they allow about 2% water vapor transmission. Once applied, these penetrating water-repellent sealers will provide an invisible top layer of protection, which will repel water and prevent mold from forming on the brick often for up to 10 years or more. Architects, contractors, industrial employees, and consumers can feel comfortable that they are using the most environmentally safe brick sealer, as the process of application is a very pleasant one with the most outstanding results.
